India had another reason to celebrate on August 15. Apart from being the anniversary of the country’s independence, it marked the release of Ek Tha Tiger (ETT). The film, which features Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif in the lead, took a clean sweep of the box office on its opening day – a 100-per cent day-one opening. It has also raised the bar for all future releases.

ETT earned a whopping Rs 30 crore plus all-India and set the record for the highest opening-day grossing. Today too, the film is holding steady and is expected to put up a tremendous performance at the ticket window over the weekend too.

In Mumbai, Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines says, “The first-day, all-India collections of Ek Tha Tiger were Rs 31 crore, while in Mumbai, they were Rs 12 crore. Today too, shows are house full.”

Sanjay Ghai of Mukta Arts says Salman Khan has created history with a fourth consecutive hit during Eid. “In Delhi-UP, the first-day collections of the film were Rs 6 crore and occupancy is 90 per cent today.”

Adds Surendra Saluja of Lakshya Movies, “ETT has set a new record. Its first-day collections in East Punjab are Rs 2.6 crore. The film will definitely have a grand weekend. Salman Khan is the man with the Midas touch.”

Sunit Singh of Aum Moviez says the first-day collections of Ek Tha Tiger were Rs 1.4 crore in West Bengal. “The film has performed really well. There is a slight drop in the numbers today but they will pick up over the long weekend.”

In CP, Sarang Chandak of Shri Rang Films reveals that Ek Tha Tiger wrapped day one at Rs 1.6 crore in the territory. “There is 25-per cent drop today but the film will pick up over the weekend and is expected to earn Rs 100 crore after the weekend.”

In Orrisa, Jeetu Khandelwal of Movie Pioneers concludes, “The collections of Ek Tha Tiger are fantastic. The movie generated business worth Rs 33 lakh here. Today, there has been a dip in collections in small centers but the film is doing well in bigger centers and multiplexes. We have a holiday here on account of Sankranti and this will benefit the film.”
