★ Salman Khan’s presence in BOMBAY TALKIES !

April 27, 2013 | Rachana Sheth

That Bollywood is incomplete without the style bhai Salman Khan is quite evident! And it is reassured now with the latest song of BOMBAY TALKIES ‘Apna Bombay Talkies’!

Though Salman Khan, as per the reports, had declined to be a part of this special song, which celebrates 100 years of Indian Cinema, his presence is very much felt. Any guesses how? The song, which features 20 of the most prominent names of Bollywood like Aamir Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Sridevi, Rani Mukherjee, Vidya Balan, Sonam Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Akshay Kumar to name a few, has either a signature tune or signature sound playing in the background, attributing to that respective star on their appearance on-screen. This at once hark you back to their popular numbers or popular films.

So when it’s Salman Khan’s turn, what could have been better than to play a score from his biggest blockbuster film HUM AAPKE HAIN KOUN and who better than singer S P Balasubramanian, with whom Salman formed a long & beautiful association for numerous hit films, could have sung it. Since SP Balasubramaniam lent his voice to Salman Khan for years so it was quite apt to have his rendition. However, like Salman Khan, SP Balasubramaniam is also making his presence felt through the song.

The song has been sung by 22 of India’s best singers including Sunidhi Chauhan, Shreya Ghoshal, Shaan, Sonu Nigam, Alka Yagnik, Mohit Chauhan, Udita Narayan and Sukhwindar Singh.

BOMBAY TALKIES is an anthology film which consists of four short stories directed by: Karan Johar, Dibakar Banerjee, Anurag Kashyap and Zoya Akhtar. The film has also been nominated for a special screening at the Cannes Film Festival 2013.

BOMBAY TALKIES is all set to hit the screens on May 13, 2013.

★ Bollywood blockbusters in 100 years of Indian cinema !

TNN | April 24, 2013

Bollywood films successful at the box-office are often referred to as ‘hits’ or ‘super-hits’. However ‘blockbuster’ is a title not every successful film can enjoy.

Things might have changed today with every other film vying for getting into Rs 100-crore club. So while we have super successful films like Ek Tha Tiger, Dabangg, Agneepath, Bodyguard, Rowdy Rathore, Golmaal, Ghajini, Dhoom 2 and many more, the blockbuster title is given only to a select few. Here we list down the all time blockbusters of Hindi cinema.

Hum Aapke Hai Kaun…! - released only with 4 prints

It took a couple of decades for any film to come close to being a blockbuster success. Like Sholay, Hum Aapke Hai Kaun wasn’t a huge opener since the film released only with 4 prints across Mumbai. But this is one of those rare films that picked up with positive word of mouth and whole families thronged to theatres with the comeback of the family drama.

Even Sooraj Barjatya might not have estimated that his film would do such huge business at the box-office. Hum Aapke Hai Kaun…! ran for years at Mumbai’s Liberty cinema.

★ Famous dialogues of Bollywood !

Purva Desai, TNN | Apr 17, 2013

Dialogues form the heart and soul of any film. In the 100 years of Indian cinema, there have been many iconic dialogues, especially from Bollywood that have remained with audiences even today.

Whether its films like Sholay, Agneepath, Mughal E Azam, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Maine Pyaar Kiya or Dabangg, it’s the dialogues that have shaped the emotional content of the film and heightened them in a way.

Rewinding into the past and moving into the present, here are a few such dialogues that have become popular over the years and have become a way of though and speech with Indian fans.

Mere Karan Arjun AayengeRakhee truly believed that her dead sons, Karan and Arjun would surely return to take revenge on thakur. Such was the power of the mother that Karan Arjun actually came back from the dead and defeated the villains. What a simple dialogue can do!

Aap toh purush hi nahi, mahapurush hai. Although Andaaz Apna Apna was a flop in its time, the dialogues became so popular that every movie buff had by hearted the entire film, in spite of the film’s fate at the box office. And Aamir’s repetitive dialogue- Aap toh purush hi nahi, mahapurush hai, kept everyone in splits! The film went on to become a cult classic largely due to the dialogues, courtesy Dilip Shukla.

Hum aapke hain kaun. Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan asked this question to each other in Sooraj Barjatya’s biggest hit- Hum Apke Hain Kaun. Although the film had many memorable dialogues, it is this particular one that brings out the relationship between Salman and Madhuri in the film, making it a favourite.

Thappad se darr nahi lagta saab, pyar se lagta haiDabangg broke all records and was a super hit at the box office. This film was Sonakshi Sinha’s debut vehicle and she was so convincing that she became a rage post Dabangg. When she utters the dialogue- Thappad se darr nahi lagta saab, pyar se lagta hai to Salman, it sends ripples down the spine.

Ek baar jo maine commitement kardi, us ke baad toh mein khud ki bhi nahi suntaWanted was considered as Salman Khan’s come back film and it did wonders for Salman and all his fans. This dialogue is repeated every now and then and has almost become a trade mark for Salman.
