All the speculation about the release of the next Salman Khan starrer can be put to rest. Mental, Salman’s home production which is a remake of 2006 Telugu hit Stalin, would be releasing on January 24.
The date coming from the within the core group of the Mental unit puts an end to all the speculation about the release.
This would be Salman’s first major Republic Day weekend release. So far all of Salman’s recent films have been released during Eid. But this year the superstar missed his Eid date because of health and legal issues.
Says a source close to the project, “After it was clear that Salman won’t be able make it on his traditional Eid Friday, he urged Sohail to try for a Republic Day completion and release. And now the Eid release for Mental is locked in.”
When contacted, Sohail confirms, “Yes, we’re shooting continuously and our tentative release date is January 24.”

Last week, we had reported that Boney Kapoor has relinquished his dates of No Entry Mein Entry, to allow Barjatya to make his film with Salman. Now we hear that the yet untitled film has been slated for release in Diwali 2015.
Though details of the film are yet unavailable, sources close to the film say, “Salman Khan has been confirmed for the lead role, the rest of the cast hasn’t been finalized yet. While the film is expected to go on floors in June 2014, it will release on Diwali 2015.”
The yet untitled venture will mark the return of Barjatya to direction post a hiatus of 8 years.
Is Salman mania reaching such heights that two his films are forming a base for debutant Girish Kumar’s launch padRamaiya Vastavaiya? If promos of this Prabhu Dheva directed film are any indication, this pretty much appears to be the case.
“If one has a close look at the promo of Ramaiya Vastavaiya, it appears as if the film is a mix of Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya and Maine Pyaar Kiya, both Salman Khan starrers,” says an observer, “The signs are quite visible and one can’t overlook the similarities.”
These similarities come from the fact that just like Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya where Salman sought Arbaaz’s approval in order to win his love Kajol, even Girish is going through the same drill.
“Arbaaz and Kajol appear to be replaced by Sonu Sood and Shruti Hassan, that’s about it. Otherwise the core conflict appears to be just the same,” the observer adds.
Moreover just like Maine Pyaar Kiya where Salman works as a daily wages labourer in order to show Bhagyashree’s father Alok Nath that he had it in him to fend on his own despite being born with a silver spoon in his mouth, even Girish is shown to be slogging out in the field despite belonging to a wealthy family.
When contacted, Girish laughed away the similarities though.
“In that sense, Bobby, Raja Hindustani and for that matter even Titanic would be similar since these are stories of ‘rich girl poor boy’ or vice versa,” says Girish, “There have been so many movies made on these lines but they are not said to be similar. See, Ramaiya Vastavaiya is a very character driven and screenplay oriented driven film. Even if the germ may seem same, it is an altogether different film due to characters’ journey and their struggles. We are not influenced at all by the films that you mention.”
Well, we would like to see that for ourselves when the film releases in July.

If the promo of Raanjhanaa begins with his song sequence from Saajan, Phata Poster Nikla Hero has him bringing back the magic of Andaz Apna Apna. If Ghanchakkar has some characters arguing over him being the hero of Ghajini, there is Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 that not just has Bobby Deol playing his fan, it also has references to several films of his being integrated into the narrative.
“While it is a known fact that Bobby is playing Salman’s fan in the film, there is more. His love story with Neha Sharma has scenes that would remind of many memorable Salman Khan films. In fact that’s the core of their romance as other than the song and dance routine, even their dialogues would be reminiscent of what Salman has mouthed in his two decade long career,” informs Sangeeth Sivan, the film’s director.
In fact such is the play of this love story that it even culminates in exactly the same manner as was the case in a super hit film delivered by Salman. Deols and Sangeet have decided to keep this element out of the promos as they obviously want audience to check it all out on screen. However, sequences of Salman’s films that have been chosen here are really hilarious.
Adds Sangeeth, “Well, it is a tribute to a person who is a true star. I thought it would be nice to do it through my film. What further allowed me to go crazy here was the fact that, Bobby and Neha love Salman in real life as well.”
He was obviously reluctant to share details about the exact scenes from Salman’s films which are being referred to. “That is for you to check out,” he smiled.
Sangeeth further goes on to add, “I realized especially after watching Bodyguard that when it comes to a Salman Khan film, it doesn’t matter who the director, producer or a heroine is; it is all about Salman. In fact I used to jokingly tell my wife that if I had just a poster of Salman in a film of mine, it would make 100 crores. Now I am having my characters who are crazy fans of Salman. I have all the right reasons to bring on Salman references.”
One wonders though whether Salman is aware about the tribute being paid!
It’s final. Producer Boney Kapoor has relinquished his dates of No Entry Mein Entry, the sequel to the 2005 film No Entry to allow Sooraj Barjatya to make his film with Salman Khan.
Apparently, last week while Boney was in Europe he received a sms from Salman Khan requesting that the producer let go of his dates so that Sooraj could accommodate his film.
Says a source, “Boney immediately agreed. Salman was supposed to work on Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kick and then go right into Boney’s No Entry Mein Entry. But on Salman’s request Boney’s film has now gone to early next year. Sooraj Barjatya has not directed a film for 8 years. Boney feels it is only right that Sooraj makes a comeback with Salman.”
When contacted Boney admitted, “Yes, I’ve postponed my film on Salman’s request. Such date reshuffles and adjustments are a routine happening in our industry. If I requested some producer to adjust my son Arjun Kapoor’s dates, I am sure he would happily do it.”
