With EK THA TIGER releasing in India on Wednesday, 15 August, there is tremendous speculation about its release in the international markets. Will EK THA TIGER have a day and date release outside India? Or will it open a day or two later, depending on the market? For those unacquainted, most Hindi films release on Thursdays in key markets such as Australia, New Zealand and U.A.E. and on Fridays in U.K. and U.S.A. Very rarely do Hindi films open on Wednesdays outside India, unless it happens to be Christmas or the Independence Day weekend in the U.S.
However, Yash Raj has decided to release the film globally on Wednesday. In fact, they had instructed their international partner-distributors about a Wednesday release, much in advance. Confirms Avtar Panesar, Vice President, International Operations, Yash Raj, “We are looking at a simultaneous release in all major markets [on Wednesday], while markets like Turkey and Japan would be explored in the second phase.”
Although it’s a bit too early to talk about the screen count internationally [it gets decided in the week of release], what can be revealed is that as many as 400 + prints of EK THA TIGER will be in circulation in the first phase of distribution [the screen count will be much, much higher]. In fact, EK THA TIGER will have one of the widest releases in the international arena.

Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan’s rivalry has been taken a notch higher. Just recently, SRK’s most ambitious project RA.One was predicted to be the biggest release in the country. The film was speculated to release in 3000 screens with over 2000 prints in circulation (Mumbai Mirror, June 24, 2011).

However, Salman has ensured that his Eid release Bodyguard breaks his arch rival’s speculated record. A source informed that Bodyguard, slated to release on August 31, will open in 2799 screens with over 2000 prints in circulation. And as of now, this completely overtakes SRK’s plans for RA.One.
When contacted, trade analyst Taran Adarsh said, “Yes, I have got the news that Bodyguard has beaten all Hindi films till date as far as the number of prints is concerned. One of the reasons is because the film stars Salman and releases on Eid. “
However, with SRK’s film releasing in October, the actor might just be able to pull off his dream and outdo the opening of Salman’s Bodyguard. “It is still early to ascertain the number of screens and prints of RA. One,” added the source.

A. India will be 1900 plus and Overseas around 300.
Q. There is Airtel survey every week which puts Akshay Kumar as number one while some others have Salman Khan or Shahrukh Khan on top. Which is the correct one?
A. They are all pointless as it is box office collections that determine the success of a star. Surveys for this sort of thing as zero value in India as its such a vast country. Also surveys are about what people are saying which is not important, its all about what people do.
